Davy Jacobs

Davy Jacobs is a globally respected and known former South Africa national player. He had led his first-class team, the Warriors to domestic and international success, having previously played for the Eagles franchise cricket team in South Africa.

A right-handed batsman, he has scored over 3000 first class runs at an average of 40+ and a highest score of 218. He is also an outstanding wicket-keeper and a natural born leader, on and off the field.

Davy played for Northamptonshire County Cricket Club as a substitute overseas player while he was tied as a professional with Carrickfergus CC in Northern Ireland in 2007.

His fantastic performance during the second edition of the 2010 Champions League Twenty20 saw him finish runners-up to Murali Vijay in the Golden Bat table. He has represented the South Africa A team on several occasions and at his peak, was considered as a great backup to the South African keeper Mark Boucher.

Davy has captained the South African Emerging Squad to Australia, and also led the South African Sixes team to victory in the Hong Kong Sixes Tournament in 2009. He represented Trinidad & Tobago Red Steel in the 2013 CPL tournament in the Caribbean.

One of the highlights of his career came when Davy was picked up by the Mumbai Indians, an Indian Premier League franchise in the 2011 IPL Player Auction. Despite his tournament being cut short due to injury, he lived up to his box office reputation, getting the Mumbai Indians off to flying starts with his no fear batting style.

Davy opened the batting with Sachin Tendlukar and also played with the likes of Lasith Malinga, Harbhajan Singh, Andrew Symonds, Rohit Sharma and Kieron Pollard. In one of the matches, he did the unthinkable, standing up to the stumps to Lasith Malinga's bowling which adventurous, cheeky and scary. He also did a stumping off the opening bowler, Munaf Patel, which still is one of the most rare stumping dismissals picked up by a fast bowler in the history of T20 cricket.

The Ontario Cricket Academy is privileged to have Davy Jacobs as one of the pillars and youngsters have always looked up to him and make constant efforts to pick his cricketing brain.
