OCA U19 set to tour Sri Lanka

The OCA U19 squad including 4 members of Canada’s U19 World Cup pool will be setting off to Sri Lanka on March 11 to 23, 2020. Akhil Kumar who was tied for 2nd place in overall wickets in the recently concluded U19 World Cup in South Africa and named on the ICC World Cup All-star XI will be the marquee player for OCA on tour. Harkaran Mann who has been in India since January, training at Ravichandran Ashwin’s academy Gen-Next (Chennai) and the Yuvraj Singh Centre of Excellence (Amritsar) through an OCA exchange program, will lead the U19’s in Sri Lanka. Other experienced players include Gurjot Gosal, who also played in the U19 World Cup and Siddh Lad, who only recently returned from New Zealand, playing in Wanganui District, again through an OCA partnership program.

The Canadians will be joined by two up and coming players from Wanganui, New Zealand, Matthew Hocquard and Henry Blackely.

The team will play 11 matches in the span of 10 days, with a mix of T20, 30 and 40 over matches. Starting off in Colombo, they will play some tough opposition including Ananda College, St. Benedict’s and the Sri Lanka Army U23 B side. Moving south to Matara, the team will face up against Stallions and Serendib academy teams. In the last stretch to Negombo, the team takes on Serendib for the last set of games.

The tour will be OCA’s 15th international tour and will provide the players an opportunity to develop as players, outside of their ‘comfort zone’ in different conditions and against tough opposition.

We will be updating scores online, on this website daily, so keep posted for more information.
